Cento and Crevalcore, Italy

On his Passenger Arrival Document,

Celso Cortelli is listed as from Cento, Italy, just North of Bologna, in Northern Italy.

 

On her Passenger Arrival Document,

Elvira Lodi, Celso's then future daughter-in-law, is listed as from

Crevalcore, Italy just North of Bologna. *

*I recently contacted the equivalent of the Town Clerk for both Cento and Crevalcore to find out more information about the families Giovanni and Elvira left behind. Maybe this will be the breakthrough for tracing the Cortelli and Lodi names further back than their arrival into the United States. That would be exciting! Added 2/15/08

 

I was struck by the coincidence that they were from towns less than 20 miles apart!
Did Giovanni Cortelli and Elvira Lodi know each other before they came to America?
I asked Aunt Eva and she said she is not aware that they did.

 

Today, the population of Cento is about 30,000.

The population of Crevalcore is about 12,000.
