4.  DARIUS³ DEXTER (SILAS², JONATHAN¹) was born 10 Jun 1789 in Tolland County, Connecticut^5,6, and died 14 Oct 1857 in Monson, Massachusetts^6,7.  He married PHEBE TOPLIFF⁸, daughter of JEROME TOPLIFF and RHODA.  She was born 01 Mar 1792 in South Coventry, Connecticut⁹, and died 20 Feb 1866 in Monson, Massachusetts¹⁰.

Notes for DARIUS DEXTER:

6/9/11

Recently found out Darius lived in Monson, MA in 1855 as he is shown on the State Census living next to or with his son Jason’s family, as was his wife. The Dexter Family Bible had both Darius and Phebe’s deaths recorded as happening in Somers, CT. I was not able to locate that record when I went through the actual record book at the town clerk’s office. Recently (June 2011) I found both death records in Monson, MA. Darius’ record says he died at 68 years, 4 months and 4 days, thus giving his birth date which I did not previously have. Also, the Dexter Family Bible gives the date of Darius’ death as 13 Oct 1857, the record in Monson says 14 Oct. On Phebe’s death record in Monson, it lists her place of birth and her parents names, two pieces of information I did not have previously.

5.  JASON⁴ DEXTER (DARIUS³, SILAS², JONATHAN¹) was born 08 May 1825 in Tolland County, Connecticut, and died 04 Mar 1890 in Somers, Connecticut¹¹.  He married ELIZABETH ROOT 28 Nov 1845 in Willington, CT¹², daughter of RALPH ROOT and ELIZABETH STAPLES.  She was born 25 Feb 1826 in Ware, Massachusetts, and died 01 Jan 1892 in Somers, Connecticut.

a copy of the town records transcribed by Susan W. Dimock in 1808 which shows that Darias and Phebe Dexter baptized their son, Jason on Oct 7, 1827; and a daughter Phebe on July 13, 1823 in Mansfield, CT.

The Dexter Family Bible lists Elizabeth Root’s birth place as Ware, MA. The town clerk in Ware confirmed in an email dated 8/25/09, no record of Elizabeth’s birth. I was ready to change her birth place to Wales since that seemed more probable, however, upon recent discovery of the 1865 Mass Census for Monson, Elizabeth Root lists her birthplace as WARE. So, I’ve left it as Ware, until I can verify the true place of her birth.

8.  CHARLES ALBERT⁵ DEXTER (JASON⁴, DARIUS³, SILAS², JONATHAN¹) was born 16 Apr 1854 in Monson, Massachusetts, and died 15 Apr 1925 in Springfield, Massachusetts.  He married NELLIE ESTELLE GARDNER 01 May 1882 in Enfield, Massachusetts¹⁵, daughter of FRANCIS GARDNER and JULIA GAYLORD.  She was born 22 Nov 1864 in Somersville, Connecticut¹⁶, and died 15 Jun 1941 in Glover, Vermont.
