Who Were the Gaylords?

"Deacon" William Gaylord was born in England in 1585 to John and Jane (Wallin) Gaylord. On 20 March 1630, he left Plymouth, England aboard the "Mary and John" with his wife and 6 children. The family arrived in Dorchester, Mass. in June of that year and became some of the town's first settlers. The family moved to Windsor, Conn. before 1643. There, his son, William was married and all 5 of his children were born there. William (III) was born in Windsor in 1651, was married there in 1671, then moved to Hadley, Mass. The next 5 generations in my line of Gaylords, with a few exceptions, were born in Hadley and what became South Hadley. William Gaylord, Jr. was born in South Hadley in 1803. His grandparents, Oliver and Betty, appear on the census records to the left. His parents, William and Lydia, finally settled in Granby, Mass, where they both died in 1851. William Jr. and his wife Julia had all but their eldest child, Julia Ann, in Hadley. Julia Ann was born in 1833 in Granby. In 1850, she married Francis Henry Gardner of Enfield, Mass. and became Julia Ann Gardner. William Gaylord died in Holyoke in 1887 and Julia Gaylord died in Amherst in 1863. Francis and Julia were my 3rd Great Grandparents.

John Gaylord, father to "Deacon" Wm Gaylord was my 12th Great Grandfather.
