Mom's Bible
Papa and Grandma Gave Her
_____________________
This Bible was given to my Mom on February 22, 1955, when she was almost 13 years old.
Papa and Grandma (her parents) had her name engraved on the front and now, over 50 years later,
the engraving is just about perfect, although the cover and binding are becoming fragile.
This Bible is really what started my interest in my genealogy many years ago, although I didn't
know at the time what I was interested in was called "genealogy".
It was Papa who filled out the family tree page, and I remember going
over this information with him and asking questions. Many times since then
I've looked over the information, very much intrigued with the idea of knowing what
my Grandparent's grandparent's names were and beyond that.
There are places on the page where I, as a young teen, made corrections or added notes
as I asked Papa questions. For example, the numbers next to Papa's siblings
are to denote the order in which they were born as told to me by Papa. The notation
that Frankie and Fannie Drum are twins, is another example. Notice "many"
written under Cornelius Christian's name for siblings; "many" was correct: he was one of 13!
Papa must have had a great memory, because it was probably the late eighties or early nineties
that he and I poured over this page, about 35 years after he'd filled it out, but I have noted
that Cornelia Tuttle's father's name was David. That proved to be correct as did all
the other information Papa had transcribed on this page.
In fact, this Bible record was the springboard for my research. It gave me a huge
head start, and after I confirmed all the information written here from
census, cemetery and other records, I was able to proceed beyond what Papa knew.
